Psychological counseling consists of personal sessions that aim at solving a specific problem or supporting a client's individual development. Psychological counselors are trained to help clients improve their coping skills and gain a deeper understanding of themselves through empirically supported methods.

The need for psychological counseling may arise during life crises, decision making problems, personal or professional transitions, interpersonal conflict or communication difficulties.
Psychologists always work confidentially and are not allowed to exchange client related information with medical doctors, teachers or other professionals without the client's permission.
The goal of psychoeducational counseling is to support students in their individual, social and academic development within the school context. This form of counseling usually includes an intake interview with the student and his/her parents, a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment, followed by an intervention.

Frequent themes include study skills and academic performance, identity, academic and career path, parenting, giftedness, learning disabilities (e.g. reading, writing, math), attention problems, emotional, motivational and behavioral issues, test and other school related anxiety, bullying and other social difficulties, mental health disorders, coping with life crises and psychosocial stress, and intercultural issues.
Behavioral observations, questionnaires, interviews and psychoeducational testing provide an assessment of a student's intellectual abilities, attention, learning and academic difficulties, and signs of mental health disorders.

Individual Psychological Counseling

Interventions may for example consist of subsequent psychological counseling, academic coaching, behavior training or academic accommodations. Whenever possible, cooperation with the school is included.

Psycheducational testing in English will be available from fall 2017. For further details, please inquire by email.
